Concepts and Methodologies

The BIP – Barometer for Information Quality bases its work on scientific principles and methodologies.

On this page, you can explore the fundamental concepts guiding BIP’s work, the dimensions and indicators used to assess information quality, and the methods and processes adopted to ensure reliable and transparent results.

Information Quality

Information quality, as defined by BIP, can be assessed across three dimensions: the information production process, the characteristics of the product (i.e., the information produced and published), and how audiences receive the information.

Research Process

To investigate information quality, the following process is followed: first, the information to be assessed is defined; next, an analysis model is developed; and finally, the most appropriate data collection (e.g., interview, observation, survey, or questionnaire) and analysis techniques (such as statistical analysis, thematic content analysis, or narrative analysis) are selected.
