Ana Duarte Melo holds a PhD in Communication Sciences. She is a lecturer in the Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Minho, where she teaches advertising, strategic and territorial communication, and creativity. Her research interests include citizenship and emerging participatory issues in civil society, as well as the role of organisational and strategic communication as drivers of innovative and alternative forms of territorial, community, public health, social, and behavioural change. She represents the Strategic Communication, Organisations, and Territories research line at CECS and has actively collaborated with several scientific associations (SOPCOM, ECREA) since 2012. She is an elected member of the IAMCR – International Association of Media and Communication Research International Council.
She co-coordinates CreateLab, CECS’s creativity and innovation agency, was head of the Communication Sciences degree programme, and vice-chair for Communication at the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Minho.
Before fully committing to academia, she worked as a journalist in print, radio, and television in Portugal and Macau (now part of the People’s Republic of China). She later spent two decades in advertising, serving as a copywriter, creative director, and screenwriter for television, advertising, and cinema.
