Joel Felizes

Joel Felizes is a sociologist and has been a member of the Department of Sociology at the University of Minho since 1990, as well as a member of CECS since 2020. His PhD research focused on local power in Portugal (2005). His main research interests include local power, local and regional development, and European integration, often analysed using tools from the Essex School of discourse analysis. His work in the Department of Sociology has combined teaching, supervising academic work, and various management tasks. In particular, dissertation supervision has occasionally offered opportunities to take a more considered approach to how many contemporary issues are presented in the media.
